Off to see the Great Oz…!

March 31, 2008 · 26 Comments

…or at least, the great Aussie. Yes, I’m going to DC to attend Michael’s events. Thanks to the generosity of a very good friend (and she knows who she is!) I am flying out tonight and will be returning Friday night. But fear not, Drunken Monkeys and other assorted blog-visiting-folk, I will be taking my faithful laptop with me and checking in periodically to make sure everyone’s behaving themselves.

Hopefully, I will have some pics to share when I get back, and I don’t mean of the bloomin’ cherry trees! I’m not sure it will be allowed, but I promise to plead and possibly even whine a little.

And of course, my TiVos will be recording in my absence, so don’t worry about missing stuff — it may be a little delayed, but if he is on (and it seems likely; TSR, at any rate) I will be posting the clips when I get back.

Time for me to hit the yellow brick road. Talk to you all soon!

Happy Birthday, Michael!

So sorry you didn’t get to enjoy a day off, but hope you had a wonderful day anyway!

(And at the risk of ending up in the doghouse along with Anderson… he is 39.)

Out of Baghdad…

March 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Michael has left Baghdad, according to Anderson, and is currently in Amman. Since he is due in DC next week, it is possible that he may be in NYC later this week, maybe we’ll get some studio “face time” with him from there.

Real Time with Bill Maher

March 21, 2008 · 12 Comments

Another fantastic guest spot on Maher’s show tonight. Jokes (about Bush, Spitzer, Big Brother, etc) and his usual cut-through-the-crap reality check about the situation over there.

(I thought it was funny that Bill pointed out the hand-rubbing straight off. I use headphones to work on the transcripts, it’s something he does all the time and he seems to be completely oblivious to it. Likewise the hand-popping he does later on during the interview.)

BTW, Michael also appeared on “This Week in Politics” Friday; that clip is also posted.

“Shock & Awe: Five Years Later”

March 20, 2008 · 9 Comments

Just an incredible program, and Michael’s contributions were stunning. If that ending tribute to the soldiers didn’t choke you up, then you need to have a doctor drain the freon from your veins.

UPDATE: the portions that Michael did are now on the site. I will be adding the entire program (in segments, as I did for “Hidden Wars”) next week.

Délie just sent me a clip that aired just after 3amET on International — Michael is at a FOB in the north of Baghdad, reporting via broadband.

UPDATE: clip is up, along with a second one. It’s now 4am here on the Left Coast… time for me to go to bed! Enjoy!

Michael was on 360 tonight to discuss the surge and whether the lowered death rates mean it’s working. Clip will be up as soon as it converts.
