Monday on 360…

September 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A commercial ran last hour that says Michael will be featured on Monday’s AC360. It shows clips from the Anbar trip and from one of the Bekaa Valley pieces from last summer. While it doesn’t state that he will be in the studio with Anderson, I think that will be the case. The clip will be up on the site shortly.

Wow! My heart is skipping beats! I’m not going to get my hopes up though that Mick will be in the AC studio on Monday. I still think he is in France partying over the Wallabies 37 to 6 win over Canada. LOL

It will be very interesting to hear what he has to say and what format is chosen to present it.

I don’t mean to sound granola crunch hippie (which, btw, I am) but I wish there was no war in the world and Mick’s reports were on children’s birthday parties and banana bread. However since there is war I want to be as informed as possible about how it’s playing out.

For me the biggest thing I have learned from Mick’s reports is how important it is for the US to remain in Iraq. The “you broke it, you fix it” rule we learned in Kindergarten.

    Rock on, Mick!

I think this is an exciting development. They are promoting AC360 using his name. He has become a brand. CNN must have enough feedback to realize that people will tune in specifically to see Michael Ware. That’s quite an accomplishment in a short period of time.

Of course, he fully deserves the acclaim. And I will, in fact, watch because he’s mentioned. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to e-mail CNN in support of this move. He has raised the standard of foreign correspondent to a new level – the Edward R. Murrow of foreign correspondents, as it were. And everyone else seems deadly dull by comparison.

Thanks for posting the vid of the adv. It’s such a promo for Michael. That’s great. I just read the AC360 webpage and tonight’s program is not about Iraq… I hope Michael’s segments will still be aired.

And about the Rugby Word Cup, wherever Michael could be next Saturday, I’m sure it won’t miss to watch the 1/4 final, Australia-England! Surely one of the most interesting matchs of this world cup.

Well, I guess he got bumped because of Britney…

The commercial was still running during “Larry King” and the graphic at the end was updated at the end to say “Next” rather than “Monday 10pm.” And yet…

I’ve sent an e-mail to the Contact thing on the 360 page. I’ll post if they tell me anything, but I’m not holding my breath.

  6. jodi54 Says: October 2nd, 2007 at 08:41   edit

I emailed AC360 last night, too – as a somewhat irrate viewer who was making a point of watching the show to see Michael Ware. But no Ware! Why promo him then?

NOTHING transpired in the news (Britney, et al) that was worthy of bumping war news. Anderson has 2 hours, for goodness sake.

Still, it’s a good sign that they’ve built a promo piece around him. I’ve only seen them build a “general type” promo using one reporter in one other instance – for Christianne Ammanpour. Perhaps, I’ve missed the others, but usually they show their stable of reporters unless its for a Special Investigation. This Ware ad was general in nature … and only showed him. Good on him.

  7. Cyn Says: October 2nd, 2007 at 09:44   edit

For whatever it’s worth, for tonight’s 360 they are promo’ing the insurance company story that was also bumped last night. However, they have not run Michael’s commercial so far today.

A different look

September 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Sharon found a great photo of Michael from 2006 wearing a keffiyeh, and damn, he makes it look good!

mw_2006_0316_msnbc.jpg

This was shown on MSNBC while he was doing a phone interview about the “Operation Swarmer” air assault on Samarra in March of last year. I’ll be posting an audio recording of the interview on the site as soon as it’s ready.

Aren’t fashion customs interesting? He looks hot no matter what he’s doing to try to blend in.

First off–love the blog! Thanks for giving us space to chat (esp. when good ol’Mick has been MIA from CNN for the past week or so). I honestly can say I don’t watch nearly as much news when there’s not much coming out of Iraq from CNN. (and yes, I know that alot is happening IN Iraq–we’re just not hearing about it).

By the way, I can’t decide if I like this photo or not. He looks even more forlorn/tired than usual. Poor guy!

    Australian,

    same name,

    very rare,

    travels under tight security,

    REAL cute…

Is it possible that Mick the war correspondent has become Mick the Koala?

  2. strawberrybitch Says: September 25th, 2007 at 08:18   edit

Yes, both Micks are very rare. I do wonder if Mick (the human one) is keeping a low profile after skewering Bush last week.

  3. LizM Says: September 26th, 2007 at 15:47   edit

I love koalas! I thought it was perfect when I saw Anderson introduce it. My good luck charm is a stuff koala named Bonzer. I think they both are cute, lucky, and rare also.

Looks like a quiet weekend

September 22, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Michael is not listed as a guest on either This Week at War or Late Edition, so it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing him over the weekend.

And Arwa is in LA with Yousiff’s family. It will be a quiet weekend.

I was just watching the Rugby World Cup and it dawned on me that Mick probably took a flight to France to watch Australia play the 9/23 game! And they won! I’ve got to say I’m curious to go find a download of the game and take a detailed look at the audience! If I see our favorite guy in the stands I’ll be sure to post.

  3. Cyn Says: September 23rd, 2007 at 15:34   edit

Definitely a possibility! And I belong to an Aussie torrent site in order to download rugby & AFL games. I intend to get that one as soon as it posts.

  4. delie Says: September 26th, 2007 at 01:48   edit

Hello everyone! I’m new on this blog. I’m a French huge “fan” (I don’t like this word) of Michael Ware. Thanks Cyn for this blog!

Working in sports media in Paris and fan of Rugby, if Michael Ware was in France, I think I would know it. I’ve sent some spies in each stadium in France…

  5. Mavis Says: September 26th, 2007 at 10:37   edit

Delie, so glad to see you posting on this blog!!!

  6. MWmcFan Says: September 26th, 2007 at 13:05   edit

Bienvenue Delie, we are so lucky to have you here. We all hope you can find the Mickster. Hopefully, he is having a great time at the games. I really think he is there.

  7. delie Says: September 27th, 2007 at 02:23   edit

    Thanks for the welcome!

If Michael is in France for the RWC , he surely is in the South, not in Paris. Australian team is located in Montpellier. They are going to play Saturday in Bordeaux (West coast) and in Marseille (Mediterranean coast) 8 days after…

Interesting blog write-up

September 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This is an interesting commentary on the commentary after the president’s speech. First, the bio of the author:

Colonel Robert E Bartos Ret US Army-served as Military Attache to Moscow and Belgrade-Chief of Foreign Intelligence on Army Dept Army Staff-commanded battalion in Vietman-member of President Reagan’s transition team-advisor to Strategic Arms Delegation in Geneva–now spends time between Washington, DC and the Caribbean

Now, there are some inaccuracies on the descriptions of both Michael and Anderson, so don’t blow a gasket. Still, the gist of the comments is great:

Like many Americans who watched Bush’s Surge speech, I flipped the TV channels afterwards, curious to gauge the pundit and politically correct crowd’s gush. A vast majority were either neutral or disappointed over Bush’s performance. My favorite interview was on CNN between Anderson Cooper and the veteran Australian journalist Michael Ware who reports from Baghdad. Cooper is a prissy, prim, clean cut, immaculate and careful man who always looks like he stepped out of a band box even in the middle of sandstorm. Ware is just the opposite: sometimes with a shirt tail out, he always looks like he was swept off a bar room floor, and usually has a one day growth of stubble; if you look closely you may find flys buzzing around his sweaty head. With a nose that is spread to the side of his face and that nasal Australian Outback Crocodile Dundee accent, he is by far the most gifted and effective English speaking reporter on the scene in Iraq. He responded to Cooper’s earnestly polite question on Bush’s speech with a sneer and read from prepared notes that debunked every major point in Bush’s speech based on his own on site observations and sources; it was a stark, grim reply, and a refreshing performance. No effort was made to please TV sponsors or conform to political attitudes at CNN. Cooper thanked him, probably afraid to ask another question – it was a rare moment – if Petraeus talked to this Australian regularly, the General might keep more of his troops alive. I dare US Congress to call Ware as an open hearing witness. Now that would be SHOCK AND AWE in the Congressional committee rooms.

Yowza.

Well, Colonel Robert E Bartos, I like your description of our favorite journalist.

However, if you looked closely on Monday, Anderson had a hint of stubble!

And as far as Michael’s appearance, let the sweat drip, let the stubble grow and the two seconds it would take to tuck the shirt in are two seconds that can be used to gather more factual information about what’s going on.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

  2. strawberrybitch Says: September 21st, 2007 at 08:55   edit

No kidding Mavis, as I used to tell my clients , “If you’re not sweatin’, you’re not doing it hard enough.” But to tell you the truth, that description of Mick was kind of…yummy. But back to the real world, it’s the hard core reporting that is most important. And thanks to Cyn for this site. You can actually follow the history of the war just by watching these clips. I just wish we could get more out of him than 3 minute clips. The situation over there is much more complicated and I have so many questions that I’ll never get answered. I know he has to “dumbdown” a lot of his answers for MSM. *sigh*.

  3. jodi54 Says: October 9th, 2007 at 23:13   edit

Does anyone know where this commentary was posted? Who was he writing to in regard to Mick and Anderson?

  4. Cyn Says: October 9th, 2007 at 23:18   edit

It was posted on the guy’s personal blog the day after the president’s speech.

The new NEW blog

September 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Okay, so I should have looked before I leapt with the other blog. Totally my bad. I can read ATA here at work, but not see the Comments, as it turns out. Why one page from Blogger slips through and not the rest is beyond me, but…Tonight I will change the links on the website and *try* to move everything over, although new registration is required. Anyway, here is the real blog!

I am so happy to see this new blog.

Today, I had the unfortunate experience of watching my friend’s dog put to sleep by a very kind veterinarian. This is more humane than most deaths in Iraq.

It reminds me of my inability to wrap my mind around any part of what Michael sees in just an ordinary day.

Thank you for your very important work, Michael!
